Formula

Direct cost = Fabric + Trims + Wash + Stitching + Packaging. Total cost = Direct cost + Overhead. Target selling price = Total cost ÷ (1 − target margin).

Worked example

If direct costs total $13.70 and overhead is 10%, estimated cost is $15.07. At a 25% target margin, target selling price is about $20.09.

Frequently asked questions

Margin or markup?

This calculator uses gross margin: profit as a percentage of selling price, not markup on cost.

Should freight be included?

For ex-factory costing, usually not. Add freight and duties separately when calculating landed cost.
